Lazy Cow
-
"Lazy Cow" came from one of those simple, lovely Sundays. We were walking along the Quayside in Newcastle, from the market, all the way up towards the Ouseburn, soaking up the sunshine and just enjoying the pace of it all.
On the way, we spotted this cow, completely sprawled out, living its absolute best life in the field at Ouseburn Farm. Naturally, I had to take a photo and I knew straight away it was going to be painted.
The naming, however, was a team effort. My boyfriend asked what I was going to call it, and I confidently said, “Snoozy Cow.”
My sister, without missing a beat, jumped in with “You mean Lazy Cow., right?”And honestly, she was right. It’s just better. The ironic part is, for someone who loves a pun, I’m actually terrible at coming up with them. So when a good one lands, it really lands, and this one felt too good not to run with.
This piece is a little nod to those slow, sunny days, unexpected moments of joy, and not taking things too seriously.
A fun one to paint, and hopefully a fun one to live with too. 🐄
